Special effects on those Raku glazes!

Pulling pots from a red hot kiln, immersing them in sawdust and flames and then plunging them into water, is one of the most exciting clay firings. Everyone on the Raku workshop at Cowshed Creative in the Lake District got some fantastic results. The first day of the workshop was spent learning about Raku, developing skills and making a wide range of pots and sculptures. A week later it was all hands on deck. Once the decorating and glazing was underway, students took it in turns to unload the kiln, manage the sawdust fire and plunge their pieces into the water. Everything undergoes a dramatic transformation by this extreme process and the results are truly stunning. Carol had never done pottery before - just look at what she created!!
